Differences in Intelligence Levels and Behavioral Problems among Children with ADHD, ADHD with Emotional Disorders and Emotional Disorders: Focusing on Children and Adolescents in Child Foster Care

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to verify differences in intelligence levels and behavioral problems among children with ADHD, ADHD with emotional disorders, and emotional disorders in child foster care. The subjects comprised 116 children and adolescents who had been diagnosed with ADHD, comorbid ADHD with emotional disorders, and emotional disorders. K-WISC-IV and K-CBCL 6-18 were used for this study. The results of this study were as follows: First, as a result of comparing the three groups based on K-WISC-IV, ADHD was found to be significantly lower than the comorbidity group and the emotional disorders group in WMI, Digit Span, and Letter-Number Sequencing. The ADHD and the comorbidity groups scored lower than the emotional disorders group in full scale IQ. Second, comparing K-CBCL 6-18 scores among these three groups, the comorbidity group and the emotional disorders gtoup scored higher than the ADHD group in exhibition of signs of being withdrawn/depressed. The emotional disorders group was found to be higher than the ADHD and the comorbidity group in terms of the Internalizing scale. Thus, the results of this study suggested that the ADHD and comorbid ADHD with emotional disorders group scored lower than the emotional disorders group in full scale IQ. In particular, the ADHD group had difficulty in terms of working memory. Additionally, the comorbid ADHD with emotional disorder group exhibited a higher degree of severity in terms of being withdrawn/depressed and the emotional disorders group had more severe internalizing problems than the ADHD group.
